The Ringelmann effect is the tendency for individual members of a group to become increasingly less productive as the size of their group increases. Some people really agree with this effect. However, some people don’t think like that, and they agree with the proverb which goes “If we don’t all row, the boat won’t go,” I agree with the proverb, too.
We know that working with groups is very important, because for business world, working with group and teamwork is an important 21st century skill now. If you have ability to do a teamwork that is an advantage for you because group works test that how is the level of your patience, your self-expression, and your empathy while there is an argument, discuss or even a fight, too.
Some people totally agree with the Ringelmann effect like some of my friends. And they don’t want to be in a crowded group, or they don’t want to work with a lot of people. Of course, there are some reasons. Firstly, they think that a lot of people will join the group, then it will be a disaster to organise and give them some assignments to complete them. Secondly, they think that if there are a lot of people want to join the group, some of the members will be lazy and won’t willing to do those tasks which are assigned to them. In addition, they suppose that some of the participants do not do what they must do or postpone it, and because of that all the work will be left to themselves or when nobody does tasks, the product will be incomplete and missing.
Situations which I mentioned at the previous paragraph could also happen. Nevertheless, these are only possibilities. And now I want to mention about why I agree with the proverb which goes “If we don’t all row, the boat won’t go.”. For an example, let’s think about a reading assignment which is 20 pages long. Assume that we have two different options. The first option is doing your task on your own. The second option is doing your task with some of your friends. What will be easier and more comfortable? Of course, the second one. Moreover, the second option will be shorter, too. I have another reason for agreeing this proverb and that is having different ideas. Exemplarily, think that you are doing a project with only your ideas. And then think that you are doing this project with your friends’ idea and imagination. You can even say “Oh! I didn’t know that.”, “That can be very useful” kind of expressions. Because of exchange of ideas, you can improve your project and you can do it more attractive.
In summary, group work is a part of our life, but somebody likes more the group works which contains less people and somebody likes more the group works which is crowded or more people. Both statements have reasons. However, as I said it before for me working with a lot of people is a nice thing.
