During the Covid-19 pandemic, almost all of us has experienced either online education or to work from home. This situation gave us a glimpse of how life would be like if we worked from home all the time. While some people totally enjoyed the whole experience of online working and the comfort of their own home, a lot of people disagreed and stated that it is hard to not socialize and be indoors all the time. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of working from home?
Firstly, when we work from home, we get the privilege of taking hold of our own time management. This allows us to spend more time with our family members and spend quality time together. But when we work in the office this is not quite possible since we are required to spend quite some time in the office. Time management also lets people spare time for their hobbies and gives them the freedom of choosing what they want to do in their free time rather than short, limited breaks in the office.
Working from home also has some disadvantages. For example, if you are a teacher your efficiency might decrease as you can’t interact with your students as much as you can face to face. There are also some occupations that are impossible to do online. For example, construction workers, doctors, mechanics, and most engineers
can’t work from home because of the circumstances of their jobs. The list of the jobs that can’t work from home obviously goes on and when
we sum these up, we see that a big portion of society would actually struggle if they had to work online. And for the people that could indeed work from home some would face distractions, loss in productivity from case to case, increased isolation, less motivation, or burnout.
Overall, working from home is something most of us has opinions on. We have seen that working from home brings its own advantages and disadvantages. I believe for now it is a little early for much of the world to work from home. But it definitely is possible for the people who can work from home to start working from home. But I do not think that we are developed enough for most of us to start working from home.
