Why does our generation prefer Video Games to Traditional Games?

Nowadays, most of our generation spend most of their time on video games to have fun. But we rarely play traditional games, and some even doesn’t know about these games at all. Some experts say that this should be a concerning problem for parents and they suggest that they should regulate their children. Still, teens think that video games are more fun, enjoyable and accessible anytime.

Traditional games have been around for thousands of years and were the only option for older generations. Because, at their time, they did not have improved technology as we have today. They grew up with traditional games. However, when our generation was born, we were born with technology. We grew up with technological devices, which became a viable option for us. Even though we played traditional games, we started to prefer video games.

Video games are more convenient. There are no limits depending on the game. You can play it whenever and wherever you want. The main point is that video games are more unlimited and creative if that makes sense. For example, now I can open any game, whatever I want, without any struggle.

Traditional games, however, are less convenient. The game is limited to its rules, players and the environment. Besides, it’s hard to find people to play hide-and-seek with you. Maybe they are not available. Fortunately, in multiplayer video games, there are hundreds or even thousands of players playing the game. You can join a match in seconds.

Nonetheless, video games are very much addictive. Once you start playing it, it becomes very addictive. As a victim of this, it’s tough to give up on video games. This addictiveness causes problems in the lives of teens, such as poor time management and physical, mental health issues. Video games cause sleep deprivation, insomnia and circadian rhythm, depression, aggressionanxiety, according to research. However, there is no confirmed direct relationship between these health issues and video games because these disorders don’t occur for everyone. For instance, when I look at the screen for too long, I cannot sleep, while my friend can look at the screen for many hours without any problems.

Furthermore, some video games have heavy violence and explicit content, which may mentally harm our generation. It can cause aggressiveness, a tendency to hurt someone and many other things.

Traditional games do not cause any health problems and even benefits our health. Playing games outside will improve physical skills and communication skills as well.

In my opinion, both options have their advantages and disadvantages. Of course, you should not be playing video games at all times. If you can keep control of yourself, you may play video games unless things get out of hand. Despite most of the teens are generally playing video games, some still play traditional games. Traditional games are not gone yet.
