KOCAYAYLA KAMP ALANI (MEHMET FARUK BEHDİOĞLU - ONUR AKTAŞ/BURSA-İHA)

Where Did She Go?

There I was standing again, in front of the sign that read “Welcome to Summercamp.” It was my 4th year coming to the same summer camp. I hugged my mom and dad goodbye as they gave my luggage to the camp consolers and headed straight into the part of the camp where the girl’s cabinets were, it didn’t take me much time finding the cabinet I was going to stay as at this point I knew the landscape of the camp area like the back of my hand.

As I started unpacking my stuff, I heard a friendly voice greeting me, she was my new roommate Amelia. Later some other people came to our cabin, they were Amelia’s friends. They decided to camp outside together and although I was hesitant at first, I decided to join them as well.

Me and Amelia were given the task of collecting wood for the fire. I knew exactly where the woods were, but Amelia was going from a different path. I decided to follow her thinking it would be fun to explore unfamiliar places. As we were walking under the moonlight, I felt an uneasy feeling in my gut. I decided to not mind it and started bonding with Ameila since it was only the two of us at that moment. We talked about our families, friends, and some hobbies. I got carried away as the conversation got deeper because once I decided to look around, I was not able to understand where we were. I asked Amelia if she had any clue where we were, but she did not have any. We decided to stay where we were so that the situation would not worsen. Amelia offered me some water and I could not resist it since it had been a long time since I had had anything to drink. We sat down under a tree, and I started feeling tired and eventually fell asleep.

When I woke up, I saw a familiar face staring at me in a room lit with candles. It was as if I was in the middle of a ritual, I wandered into the area, not being able to lift my head and saw Amelia. She approached me and said, “Wake up.”

I felt my body being shaken and I woke up. Beside me were the camp counselors. I was relieved to be found but I could not see Amelia. I asked the counselors about Amelia, but they said there was no one under the name of Amelia in the camp.
