After a long day, finally I was at home. I checked my jacket’s pockets, and I found a piece of paper in my pocket that said ‘Call me now!’ On the crumpled paper, there was also a number whose last digit had been wiped out. It was a phone number. I tried to figure out whose number is it. I couldn’t find an answer. A lot of thoughts were keeping my mind busy and making it much more difficult to figure out. Where did it came from? Who was it? Why didn’t I know anything about that mysterious piece of paper? I was about to find answers, but I wasn’t aware of it.
I heard a weird sound; I focused on the sound with a little hope of can hear it again. Then, I really heard it again. It was coming from outside. I decided that someone knocked the door, and I was right. I opened the door. It was my cousin, Rebecca. She was wearing a sportswear and was in a sweat. Clearly, she was tired and breathless. I waited for a bit her to breath. Then, I asked ‘Becca, what are you doing here?’ She said ‘Why didn’t you call me? Bob delivered my message to you and told you to call me. Why didn’t you?’ Bob was her husband and my colleague. Then I remembered all of it. He told me to call her while I was eating my lunch. I said ‘Oh, I’m so sorry. I know this is not the first time this happening and talked about it yesterday, but, in my defense, I have a memory like a sieve. I know that you needed money, but as you know, yesterday I was unable to give some money to you. Probably, I wouldn’t be able to transfer the money to your bank account.’ She said ‘No problem. I solved the money problem. I knew you would forget it and had a B plan, but you must call me tonight. Just make sure you don’t forget this time. Kids miss you. I wish we were able to meet, but it seems like we can’t do that for a while. See you!’ She went and I closed the door. I note it to be sure that I won’t forget it this time and put the note in my pocket.
A few hours later, after I had dinner, I checked my pockets and found a note. I couldn’t read it. Definitely, it was not my hand-write. I was curious where did it came from. I didn’t remember any of the conversation we had with Becca today. In that moment, only thought in my mind was ‘Where did it came from?’
