Unfortunate Child Yusuf

The last film I have read was Kuyucaklı Yusuf. This film was named after the book “Kuyucaklı Yusuf”. Movie directors wanted to make a movie which summarizes that book. This is a fiction book, and the category of the book is drama. It is written by Sabahattin Ali in 1937. Film scenario was written by Feyiz Tuna, and he made the film in 1985. Main characters are Yusuf, Muazzez and Selahattin which played by Talat Bulut, Derya Arbaş and Ahmet Mekin.

“Yusuf was born in Kuyucak. His whole family was killed by murderers. District Governor Salahattin Bey adopts Yusuf. Selahattin has a daughter named Muazzez, Yusuf and Muazzez grow up as siblings. Selehattin’s wife Şahende does not love Yusuf from the beginning. As the time passes, Yusuf and Muazzez starts to like each other. But Şakir, the rich boy, wants Muazzez to be his wife, he makes plans for it. The only way for Muazzez to escape from this is to marry Ali, the cashier. But Şakir killed him. Then, Yusuf and Muazzez get married. Şahende stars having alcoholic parties at home with Şakir. When Yusuf find the truth, he killed everyone except Muazzez. They run away from home, but Muazzez dies on the road.”

The characters are reckless. It looks easy for them to kill people or marry someone. They do things without thinking the results, and it is totally different from our generation. We think every detail, and we care things. The thing that made the movie stand out is being the first movie which describes the lifestyle and people at that time. There is nothing same with now, the culture is totally different. But this film is a great way to teach new generation how was their life is. People need to know their past to ensure cultural integrity. These type of books and movies help us to learn lessons from past.

I rate this film 6 out of 10. I think it is a bit short because the book has a lot of details but this film not. If I hadn’t read the book, I was not going to understand anything, because it is too undetailed. Also, some parts of the book is so ridiculous for me, I think it is because of the generation I live. But in general, it is pleasant to watch it.
