Hello there! My name is Priya. But now, there is no time to introduce myself because I’ve got something more important to say. Today, when I woke up thirsty – it was around five AM – I saw this weird text on top of my head. It said:
“Your curse for today: CANNOT LIE.”
I was confused but decided to go back to sleep because I couldn’t process anything this early in the morning. An hour later, my mom came and woke me up.
“Priya! Priya! Wake up! You are going to be late for school, darling.”
“Mom! Leave me alone! I want to sleep a bit longer, and then when I wake up, I’m going to pretend I’m sick so you will let me skip school for today.”
“What did you say, young lady?!”
“Uhh, nothing! Yeah… nothing.”
“Well, it better be nothing, Priya! Now get out of bed and wash your face already. You look like you time-traveled to the present after the Stone Age.”
I was so frustrated! I took a look at the weird text above my head again – it really said “Cannot Lie.” This was terrible! What was I supposed to do? I used to lie like four hundred times a day! People were going to be confused and mad at me, leaving me to just rot of embarrassment. Well, I guess there wasn’t a choice; I lost my chance to fake sick. I got out of bed and headed to the restroom. After a stressful car ride – there was wild traffic, ugh – I was finally there, at my school building. I slowly walked to my class, thinking of my fate. Then, suddenly, a familiar voice snapped me back to reality; it was Aurora’s voice.
“Hey girl! Are you ready for that test today? I’m so not! I’m going to fail for sure. If you studied, could you lend me your notes? Pleaseeee? Huh- wait! Is that my shirt?!”
“Yep, it is! You left it at my house, and I decided to keep it. Anyways, about the notes, I actually did study this time, but I won’t lend YOU my notes because I find you kind of annoying- I mean… uhh… yeah, bye.”
“WAIT, WHAT?! PRIYA!!”
I ran to my seat as fast as I could, leaving Aurora behind with our other classmates. After I unpacked my things, I quickly rushed to my best friend, Bailey. I tried to tell her about my curse, but she kept saying that I had some sort of mental problems. There was no hope, so I just went with it. With all that on my head, I forgot about the test. After the first lesson, it was time to take our exam.
“Remember class! NO cheating; otherwise, you will face serious consequences.”
“Oh, I bet we wil- I-I mean, th-thanks… miss.”
Thankfully, I aced the test. I was good enough in Science. At lunch, I tried to talk with Aurora… no hope! They took it seriously. I wouldn’t! After two more hours that felt like two centuries, school was finally over! I ran to my mom’s car and started to wait for her to start the car engine. At the car, my mom questioned me.
“Priya, there is something we need to talk about. Aurora’s mother called me and said pretty shameful things about how you stole her shirt and called her mildly annoying… is that true, Priya?”
“W-what! Well, it is true that I took her shirt, but it was in our house, and I did not call her MIDLY annoying. I called her kind of annoying. And she is just overreacting, to be honest. And good news, I did well on the test!”
“YOUNG LADY! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR! IF YOU TOLERATE THIS BEHAVIOR AGAIN, YOU ARE GROUNDED WITH NO MOBILE PHONE FOR A WEEK!”
“And you are overreacting, to- I-I mean, okay, fine…”
Yes, I can tell that my day was chaotic, but it still relaxes me to this day, knowing that I probably won’t get that weird curse thing again. But still, five hideous things had happened to me:
- I got in trouble with faking being sick.
- I lost a friend who is now staring at me with hate flaming in her eyes.
- My best friend thought I had some mental issues when I tried to tell her. I was ashamed.
- I got in trouble for talking back to the teacher.
- My mom was cross with me, again.
I know these things aren’t that bad, but it was still pretty shameful of me to do such actions. People still talk about it to this day…
