Totems

Totems are some internalized gestures, words and similar actions that I use for most of my life. We use totems in our daily life when we hope something will go our way. For example, we can use it when we want the team we support to score a goal in a football match or when we want an exam that we worked hard to pass well. However, there are also very different versions of totems. Sometimes it is possible to encounter very wild and different totems.

I want to talk a little bit about myself. I have millions of different totems that I have produced myself since I have been playing volleyball since I was very young and I played in the matches. The most well-known of these is the tiny Band-Aid that I wear on my right index finger before every game. if I forget to wear it in a match, that match will be unlucky and bad for me. The situation is the same for every match I’ve played for about 4 years. It works pretty well if you ask me. Of course, some might call it superstition, but this is my totem.

At the same time, there is one more totem that we really do every match as a team. we usually do this when we’re with the school team. The whole team gathers before each game and we braid each other’s hair and there is no one left without a braid. When the whole team comes to the game with our herringbone braids, it seems like it was a more exciting and enthusiastic match.

I think with totems life becomes much more livable and at least more exciting. especially if we think that these totems hold.
