To Kill a Mockingbird

Harper Lee is one of the best writers who can touch readers deeply. I was impressed so much with her attractive and poignant paragraphs. I would like to share my favourite quotes from her book which is set in the mid-1930. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs. They don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”

She always highlighted the main problems of folks and the social-economic problems of countries. She was talking about how humans lose their humanities in her novels. “People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for.” after I read that part, I realised that people are not using their sense to communicate as well as how we are deaf and blind to each other’s problem. For instance, we, as the students, are listing our teachers to just get higher marks. Unfortunately, the situation is the same in workplaces and families. Neither governments nor the publics listen to each other. As the writer says “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”, we have walked away from each other.

Humans were becoming different from animals by their opinions and actions but at the moment we are just waking up, eating something, working and studying hard, and sleeping as George Carlin says. We are destroying other countries, polluting nature and losing our humanity. We were the Homo sapiens in utterly huge world before became the person who is living in little isolated world. I want to end my word with Harper Lee’s word from To Kill a Mockingbird:

He said at last, “… If there is just one kind of folks, why can’t they get along with each other? If they’re all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I am beginning to understand something. I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley stayed shut up in the house all this time…it’s because he wants to stay inside”
