Those Who Have Everything But Have Nothing

While the rhythmic sounds of my steps on the wet ground were ringing in my ears, my legs started to rebel under the influence of running for a long time. Judging by the smell of mold, algae, and gasoline that filled my nose, I must have been under a gas station. Yes, I wasn’t knowing where I was running or even where I was. All I was able to see was darkness. I looked back, could they still be following me? As thoughts run through my mind, I decided that I needed to rest and sat on the ground. At the same time, I was trying to see if someone was there in the dark. My eyes were getting used to the darkness more and more. Still, not knowing what would happen to me was driving me crazy.

I screamed and continued running again when I felt something moving on my arm. I was shaking and arguing with myself whether anyone heard me. All of a sudden, I started to feel dizzy with the effect of getting up fastly, and the smell of gasoline made me sick to my stomach. I ran for a twenty more minutes hoping to see a light. I finally saw a light, and I ran even faster, happy to be able to reach surface. As I climbed the creaking iron stairs, all I could think about was where I was. The sun was about to set and I would be surrounded with darkness again. This was the last thing I wanted.

I looked around but there was no vehicle I could use. I walked into the abandoned gas station. I needed water urgently. I went into the bathroom and washed my face. I was feeling a little better. I started looking around again. Then I reached into my pocket and found a piece of paper. It had an address written on it. I was checking my surroundings while reading the address. The address was familiar from somewhere and my feet were already dragging me before I could stop it. I didn’t know where I was going, but I had to trust my instincts. After walking for an hour, I finally saw a few houses. I was helpless and exhausted. I had to ask someone for help, I knocked on the door of one of the houses. I was about to start talking when the door slammed on my face with a light breeze. My hair, which was blowing towards my face with the effect of the wind, was sticking to my wet face. As I felt the warmth of my tears on my cheeks, I realized once again how weak I was.

As I was walking alone in the middle of the dark street, hunger and thirst began to bother me. I decided to rest at an empty bus stop, there was a poster next to me saying: Those who have everything but actually have nothing. I was startled when someone shouted my name while I was thinking how ridiculous the poster was. I had totally forgotten someone was following me. I started running with my last energy while crying at the same time. I don’t know what happened to me, but I collapsed due to the effect of everything.

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw were the white hospital ceilings. I was not used to such light. I looked around, there was no one in the room.As two nurses entered the room I closed my eyes instantly. While they were setting my serums, one of them said: “Do you know who this girl is?” While the other shook his head negatively, she continued: “This girl is the daughter of the CEO of …. company. They are one of the wealthiest families in the country.” “However, she’s schizophrenic, she ran away from home.” “She doesn’t understand what she’s doing.” After the nurse was silent, the other one said: “She must be one of those people that has everything but actually has nothing.” As these words stabbed into my heart like a dagger, I fell asleep again because of the sedative given.
