Drought is a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall, leading to a shortage of water due to global warming, is one of the most important problems of our age. An estimated 55 million people globally are affected by droughts every year, and they are the most serious hazard to livestocks and crops in every part of the world. Drought threatens people’s livelihoods, increases the risk of disease and death, and fuels mass migration. What can we do about it? Maybe publishing universal statement on water conservation? What kind of solutions should we offer?
In order to do conserve the water us, the society, should take some response. To give examples, taking shorter showers. Approximately a shower uses 15 litres to 30 litres and limiting the shower time will decrease the numbers. Turning off the water while brushing your teeth, shaving. Checking taps and pipes for leaks, a saying says many a mickle makes a muckle small drips can waste about 200 litres of water per day. Do not wash disches by hand, use the dischwasher. Stop using your toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket. Use drip irrigation instead of fountain. If we compare drip irrigation to fountain drip irrigation can conserve the water 30 to 70 percent and also drip irrigation is also much more efficient than fountain.
We should legislate for the countries that are in very high risk in drought. Laws for conserving water. For example in South Africa goverment limited the amount of water for 25 liters per day in Cape town, the capital of the South Africa. We should limit the amount of water for the place that are needed. Other than that in my opinion the most important thing to do is to raise people awareness. We should make documantries, newspapers, magazines, news and other kinds of communication ways. We have to let people know that droughtness exist and a major problem.
As a conclusion to necessary places we should make laws that limits the usage of water and raise people awareness. Taking response as a member of the socity is also important. If the world’s water supply were only 100 liters (26 gallons), our usable water supply of fresh water would be only about 0.003 liter (one-half teaspoon). Only 0.5% of the earth’s water is available fresh water. We have to know its value.
