Trying to Become a Barbie

Perception of beauty is something that we created in our minds basically, also it is something that changes consistently due to the standards of society. Of course it affects all of us at some point. Like we are trying to fit those standards even though we are not really into that and it’s sometimes happening without conscious. It reflects and influences our choices of who we are going to be as well.So the definition of “beauty” is always in a change. As we all can guess, virtual platforms has a big role in that.

The media is constantly portraying “the ideal beauty” and body image comparisons. With that the choices of beauty is shaping globally. Especially, social media has a major part of it. Women are more likely to force themselves to fit in beauty standards because of the society’s thoughts: A woman needs to be perfect! What a shame to us that we’re really thinking perfection is the key of everything. Every single day, I see a teen girl crying over these. Because on the social media there are lots of “beautiful girls” posting themselves and they think like “Why am i not like them?”. But they’re beautiful to who or to what? Again the answer is ending with the perception of beauty.

After a time of period, people will try to fix these “problems” with harming themselves. They will try to lose weight by making themselves vomit or it will end with a plastic surgery. And it won’t come to an end, they will find another detail as an imperfection to change. But rather than that why don’t we try to learn how to accept and love those details. Because they are the important things that are characteristic features. Also we need to realize beauty is not just a physical thing to consider, there is something we call inner beauty. Inner beauty is about who you really are and it is the actual thing which makes someone special and different. And it refers to the person’s personality and mind. The thoughts in life has a longer way to go sustainably if we compare it to outer beauty. So beauty is not just a material thing it is actually the way you smile, act, think, evaluate, be confident. As John Green said “That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste.” don’t choose anything to its aesthetic, at the end of the day we are not barbies.
