There have been these quotes said by 2 of the worlds finest philosophers. Nietzsche, with his bold ideas, suggests that “self-worth enhances a person’s dignity,” while Yunus Emre, a Turkish poet, proposes that “humility elevates a person’s virtue.” So, which idea do I agree with? Let’s delve deeper into these viewpoints to find out.
Friedrich Nietzsche, a philosopher known for his crazy ideas, gave immense value to both individualism and self-worth. For, he thinks that the concept of self-assertion is central to the human experience as a whole. To have self-worth is to recognize one’s own value and appreciate everything about it. He states that dignity is born through a deep confidence that comes from within that can’t be disrupted from the external world.
On the other hand, Yunus Emre believes that humility is the cornerstone of human righteousness. I believe humility in this context is not for one to think less of oneself, it’s to know your place and boundaries with understanding and respect. His emphasis on humility tells us that greatness is not found in the arrogance of one’s own accomplishments, but in the humility to serve others and contribute to the collective good.
Both Yunus Emre and Nietzsche offer valuable wisdom, but the perspective I agree with the most has to be Nietzsche. Yunus Emre’s ideology simply is not suitable for the modern world. The reason for that would be because the statements he proposes are far too submissive. It’s good to be humble but once you give in and completely offer oneself instead of having one’s own thoughts, you start to lack in free will.
