The Murder on the Orient Express

I have always loved books with mysteries and crimes. So it is not a shock that I am a huge fan of Agatha Christie, who is also known as the “Queen of Crimes”. I have a huge collection that consists of her books and I can say that you can buy all her books with your eyes closed.

Agatha Christie has 66 detective novels and lots of short stories. Although all of her novels are quite qualified, there are a few books which are known as masterpieces. One of these masterpieces is called “Murder on the Orient Express” and is also the first Agatha Christie book I have read.

“Murder on the Orient Express” is a detective novel with an intricate plot and an unusual ending. The detective in the book is Hercule Poirot who is a world-known Belgian private detective who is involved in Christie’s 33 original novels and 50 short stories. He is famous for his intelligence, his ability to understand the criminal mind and his unique moustache.

The story begins with Hercule Poirot in İstanbul. He gets a message which wants him to return to London. Despite all the difficulties, he manages to find a place in the Orient Express and the journey starts with other thirteen passengers: a soldier, a Russian royalty, a nurse, a businessman, an English governess and more.

One of the passengers, Samuel Ratchett, asks Hercule Poirot to protect himself as he feels threatened. Poirot rejects him because of his attitude and as he is known as a vile person. As the journey goes on, the train becomes stuck in the snow and after that Ratchett’s dead body is found. With the help of a doctor and worker in the train, Poirot starts investigating the case and discovers a hidden truth which connects some passengers to each other.

If you are fond of mystery books or want to start reading detective novels, “The Murder on the Orient Express” would be a perfect decision. With its complicated plot, surprising ending, deep characters and our favourite detective Hercule Poirot you will finish this book in one go.
