The Meaning of My Life

I’ve always had this thing for animals. I think that’s because of I grew up having so many animals around and watching lots of cartoons that has animals inside. I remember when I was a little kid my uncle used to take me to his university for me to play with the kittens that lived there. I would go there and play with the cats for hours and feed them.

Because I loved animals so much, I always wanted a pet. So my parents decided to buy me fishes because they were easy to look after. So we went to a pet shop and bought two fishes. After we got home and put the fishes in their aquarium we figured that one of the fishes had died and I had no idea because I was five. The other one lived like two months more, and then it died too. However, my love and want for pets never stopped so my parents thought we could buy a bird. My mom had experience about petting birds so we bought a bird. Unfortunately, it died after two weeks, which had an impact on me this time because I was seven back then. But did it stop my love for animals and my love for a pet, obviously not. So bought another bird but this time we bought it from a bird shop so he was healthier.

By that time, we had moved to a new house and near this house, there was a dog park, which was surprising for me because I had never seen one before. I was also happy because I’ve always wanted a dog. So one day, I was in the park and I wanted to go to that dog park but I didn’t know was the dogs would all come to me. I was new there but I don’t think that was the main reason. I think that was because I was holding an ice cream in my hand. I was a little bit frightened which was hilarious but then the owners said that it was because of the ice cream. So I rushed back home left the ice cream there and got back to the dog park. I met the dogs and their owners there and they were all very welcoming. Soon I was always in the dog park. I was waiting for the dogs the come and going to there as soon as I see someone. That made me want a dog too but my parents said that I couldn’t look after a dog (I don’t think they were all wrong back then) and that I already had a pet. But I was still always in the dog park.

After sometime passed, I was in the last day of my summer break and I woke up excitedly because I had a birthday party the day after that. After that I looked to my birds cage and couldn’t see him so I thought that he was playing with his ball and got near the cage to look. What I saw was devastating. I realized he was dead and burst into tears. In the evening of that day, when my parents were trying to make me happy they said that I needed to look to the bright side and that because of that reason we might be able to adopt a cat. I didn’t believe that because I knew my dad hated cats so I said that I wanted a dog instead and they said that it wasn’t possible but I don’t remember the rest of our conversation.

After like four months my mum came near me and asked if I wanted a cat. I was surprised and I approved. Then she showed me photos of two cats. One was white with brown spots and the other one was completely black. We decided that we could adopt the black one because she was so cute. But there was a challenge: convincing my father. Surprisingly, it was easier than I thought and he approved it. I ran and told it to my mum.

The following Friday, my mom had a box on her lap when they picked me up from my school. I was so excited to see her so as soon as we got home, I opened the box and saw her. She was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Her eyes were wide open and it was obvious that the road and new place had scared her. She was afraid of me first but in time she got used to me. Her soul is like mixture of a cat and a dog so we can go for walks or play fetch.

I think I couldn’t have been happier. Badem is my everything and she is the first (sometimes the only one) to know when something happens. I love her so much and I can’t imagine a life without her
