The Letter

The Raven family. They are like a puzzle wrapped in mystery. Nobody knows what’s really going on behind their mysterious ways. Even those living in the palace are clueless. Their daughter, their only daughter, Mavis, didn’t know anything either.

Hi, I’m Mavis. I felt obligated to write this letter to my country, and here we are, realizing that my own family had kept me in the dark about everything, just like everyone else.

When I was born, it felt like a curse for our family. I wasn’t accepted by those in the palace, not even by my own parents. I didn’t understand why I wasn’t loved. I was young and clueless. My cousin John was treated like royalty. Everyone smiled when they heard John’s voice. Meanwhile, I was running errands and helping with chores around the palace. I assisted the palace staff and did whatever my grandparents asked of me. When I was little, it was just a game for me. I enjoyed doing these things. But as I grew older and compared the way John was treated to how I was treated, I realized I wasn’t any different from Cinderella.

As the years passed, I can clearly say that nothing changed. John received even more attention as time went on. Being the future king, he was pampered even more. Meanwhile, I felt like I needed a prince to rescue me. John was so lucky; his life was planned out years in advance. The date of his coronation, the ball, his clothes, the girl he would marry, the wedding date… Everything was planned before John was even born. But it’s not the same for me. Nobody cares about me. All I did was sit and wait for orders. Sometimes I would even get punished just for sitting. I spent days, maybe even weeks, in the basement.

It was another day in the basement, alone with my thoughts. I found myself talking to me constantly. There was no one else to talk to, anyway. What else could I do “I never asked for anything, not a bed, nor a room, nor a house. Just leave everything, and love only me. While fading away behind closed doors, the times I fled, I had actually given up. My sandcastles crumbling, one by one, against you. I’m like a rusty-armored hero.

Our family secrets were hidden in the trunk in the basement of our house. When I opened the trunk, I learned things that completely changed my outlook on life. It was full of letters. There was one letter that made me cry. My moms…

“Dear Mavis,

From the depths of my heart, I write these lines to you, hoping they touch your soul and embrace you with warmth. Each day, each breath is filled with thoughts of you, and as I write these words, I overflow with a flood of love from within.

As a mother, every moment spent with you is a precious treasure to me. The smiles we share, the gentle breeze of our shared moments, they all come flooding back to me as I pen this letter. Yet, as I write, I find myself wiping away tears, for life sometimes tests us with challenging paths. On this journey with your name as my guide, I too have encountered scars. Broken hearts, worries, and dark days… all endured for you, to strengthen the bond we share.

I’ve journeyed to the darkest corners of the sky, whispering your name among the stars. In the dead of night, I’ve searched for solace in the darkness of predatory eyes, for I’ve braved everything to be by your side. In the loneliest corners of the road, even amidst solitude, I overflowed with your love.

And now, your touch breaks down the most fragile walls within my heart. Your fingertips venture into unknown territories, drawing me into a deeper connection with you. Break down these barriers, and come inside, for everything with you is more beautiful, brighter, and more meaningful.

My daughter, you are my everything. Every moment with you is a gift. On the illuminated path of your love, I wish to walk beside you always. I love you, my everything.

Your Mother”
