The Impact of Stereotypes on Society

Wherever you go in the world, what you can see in common in all societies is the roles that are divided according to gender differences .It arose in the foundations of these societies and has continued ever since .Some people in the society argue that the existence of gender roles ensures order in the society, while other people argue that it causes inequality in the society .In this article I will tell you which idea I support with reasons and examples .

First of all, what does gender roles mean ?Gender roles in society means how we’re expected to speak, act, dress, groom, and conduct ourselves based upon our assigned gender .Every society, ethnic group, and culture has gender role expectations, but they can be very different from group to group as it should be .In fact, even in the same society, there may be a change of thought over time .For a good example I can say ,pink used to be considered a masculine color in the U.S. while blue was considered feminine ,until the 20th century .

These roles have been going on since pre-historic times, where men were the hunters, and women were gatherers and did the domestic work .Since then these gender roles have continued through the generations and have taken their current form .I would like to give examples of the most well-known gender roles .For the girls ;generally expected to dress in typically feminine ways and be polite, accommodating, and nurturing .By the way most jobs are not considered suitable for women by society .Even in the distribution of work within the family, women should stay at home and take care of the children, cook for their children and husband, do the laundry and do a lot of housework like that .

For the boys ;men are generally expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold .Men are considered to be the earning members of society .In the distribution of work within the family , men are the people who bring money to the house and are responsible for the livelihood of the family .

Don’t you think it’s annoying that people are stereotyped and forced into stereotypes, from the way they talk to the styles they wear ?I think that everyone’s own style and movements positively affect the inner diversity of the society .

As for the distribution of work within the family, I find this distribution very absurd because the woman can both work and take care of her child, and the man can also stay at home and take care of the child, or they can divide it among themselves and take care of the child together as it should be .And for the last one ;everyone should be able to choose the profession they want, regardless of gender .

As you can understand from what I wrote, I support the idea that gender roles cause inequality in society .
