Have you ever heard the saying “to step out of your comfort zone”? Of course you have. But have you ever given it thought or wondered why this was so important?
Think of it like this: Your life is a bubble right now and within that bubble exists everything you’ve ever done, anywhere you’ve ever been to, or in short terms, anything you’re familiar or comfortable with. Now think of the life you aspire. If you already had that life in your bubble, you would not dream of it. This means you need to blow air into your bubble and expand it until you’ve reached your goal.
Everything you’re physically capable of falls into one of two categories: inside the comfort zone, and outside the comfort zone. The things that are inside of the comfort zone are easy, and safe they take little or no effort to do, and there’s no mental resistance while doing these tasks.
One example that can be given to this is driving. You drive to the store, you drive to work while your brain is pretty much on autopilot the whole time. Since your brain does this simple task without thinking, it is automatically placed in the comfort zone. How about going for a run? It is more challenging, makes you lose your breath, and results in sore muscles most of the time. Because you know that running is challenging and hard to do, your brain at one point puts it outside of your comfort zone. But here is where things get interesting, running is good for you. After a week of consistent running, you will feel changes in your mentality, you will feel your energy increase and you will feel better in general, whereas if you drive for a week you will feel nothing significant.
Many successful people who have once stepped out of their comfort zone have stated that it is never as scary as it looks. These people are the type that do not allow fear to rule over their life and just “jump into it”. The only thing that the comfort zone wants is to keep you in it. The more you stay in your comfort zone, the more it shrinks. So, what are you waiting for? Get out of it.
