Two soccer players chase the ball at the stadium

THE END OF A DREAM

We had another school year behind us, and after this summer, I would have the right to join the national football team. You might wonder what’s the deal, but I am, Joseph, a very talented football player compared to my peers. Let me tell you a little bit about my past. My love for football started with my father when I was very young; after all, my father was a world-renowned football player, and whenever I watched his matches, I could not stand still but also saw my father as an idol.

My mother saw my love of football but didn’t see much of it because she had lung cancer. Losing my mother at a young age affected me deeply. But to make my mother happy, I vowed to become a world-famous football player like my father. I wanted to make this dream come true. However, during my first football practice, I didn’t play well at all. Was it excitement, fear, or something completely off? Of course! This would not deter my ambitions to become a world star. In response, I started training at home with my father, and we realized that I could run extremely fast. To put it concretely, I was able to outrun my peers, even people who were bigger than me. My father was very surprised to see this, and we decided to go to the doctor. After a few tests, we learned that I was able to run much faster than normal because my leg muscles had developed differently. Knowing this, I trained more to get faster because I realized, in my training, that I love outrunning people, and for me, that is what makes football, well, football. As a result of my hard work, my speed increased so much that I could catch my own pass. Those who saw this wanted to get me on their team, and I eventually got on an official team by making a deal with a coach. The team that I was on is very strong, of course, but I was still the best since they couldn’t keep up with my speed.

If we come to the present, at the beginning of this summer, I had a match again. As in every match, they would give me the ball, and I would score a goal. As soon as they handed me the ball, I began running; no one could catch me, but when my foot hit the ground, my ankle turned. I was very badly injured, and as a result, we went to the nearest hospital right away. After some tests, we found out that I broke one of my leg bones so badly that if I broke it again, I wouldn’t be able to play football again. It took me weeks to just recover, and I fell behind my other teammates because of it. When I went back to the field after a long time, I could not reach my old speed because I was afraid. Those who noticed it started to bully me, and then I said to myself, “I wish I could go invisible when I liked or if need be.”
