TERRIBLE DESTRUCTION MAKERS: EARTHQUAKES

Earthquakes are natural disasters that can affect the place they happen too bad both in economical and health ways. It can put people in poor conditions. There have been a lot of huge earthquakes in the history and they have been a big problem for the whole world until today. They still are being a big threat for the living life in where they occur. It puts people’s, animals’ and plants’ lives in danger.

In early 2000’s an earthquake struck Chile in the magnitude of 9.5 and it didn’t make too much distruction. Only 80 people approximately died in that earthquake. A giant 9.1 magnitude earthquake happened in Japan in 2011. Japanese people care about the structure of the buildings more than a lot of other countries so their buildings are durable and don’t collapse in great magnitude earthquakes. Japan is in the biggest earthquake region in the world and people in Japan faced too many earthquakes. But at the same time it is one of the less damaged countries.

Two months ago, 2 very distructive earthquakes happened in our country, Türkiye. Center if these earthquakes were Kahramanmaraş and they affected 11 provinces mostly in southeast region of Türkiye including the cities: Hatay, Şanlıurfa, Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Kilis, Osmaniye, Elazığ and northeast of Syria. The earthquakes were catastrophic especially in these cities. After 2 big ones, a lot of little earthquakes occured in these regions and they affected the local people and the government in economical and psychological ways. It also caused the death of 60 to 70 thousand people. Our government called this as the biggest disaster in the history of Republic of Türkiye.

The distruction level changes due to the strength of the buildings. The engineers’ morality and education is the important thing at this part. But which one is more related with making more strong buildings? In my opinion education is of course very important to make the buildings in the right strategy. But most of the engineers steal from material because of strong desire of earning more money. So I think morality and being selfish is more related about this.
