Technology: Friend or Fiend?

Technology takes a huge part in our education system now and I believe that this is something we all can agree on. From how we do our lessons to even reviewing them in an easier and quicker way. But that’s not all the opportunities the internet serves us obviously. The part that’s not related to academics, which is social media. Is social media a drawback for students’ success since it’s almost impossible to get addicted to the reels, tweets, blogs we scroll though non-stop?

First, let’s look back at the times where technology wasn’t so developed as today. Students needed to go all the way to the libraries or their schools to reach the information they needed, they only had their teachers or maybe their parents to ask the question they weren’t able to solve. These are the things that takes a lot of time and it also reduced the amount of time it takes to teach a subject in the classroom too with inventions that are a must like smart boards. These are all great advantages that helps the students learn more efficiently.

Now, how could social media affect the productiveness of the students’ daily lives? You see, our brained is wired to do the easiest work at hand, and of course we know which one is easier if we are talking about doing homework and mindlessly looking at our phone. The thing that’s suppose to fill our empty time with joy becomes a poison when we can reach it this easy.  This kind of addiction is fatal since it’s not that easy to detect and due to the need our electronic devices in daily life, we can’t really get rid of them much either.

Long story short, if the students are aware of their priorities and can balance out their academic life without cutting from their social life and hobbies, I see no problem in technology that can withdraw students’ potential although that is an extremely difficult thing to achieve without some mistakes beforehand.
