Residents of Nowhere: The Refugee Problem

As the residents of Türkiye, we are all experiencing the severe crisis of refugees, mostly coming from uncontrolled borders. These problems occur on most of the countries on the world, but mostly European countries are affected from the issue. Refugees coming from war territories often consider the territories of the European continent in order to rebuild their lives in a reliable place.

Our country Türkiye is having a really hard time from the refugee crisis in the last few years opening its borders to 13 million refugees confirmed by official authorities. The number is said to be near 18 million in the resources of the social media, realizing that not all the refugees are registered. Türkiye, as a country close to both Middle East and Europe, plays a crucial role in refugees passing the borders to go to Europe or stay in the country. The country took economic damages alongside with increasing crime rates, affecting the behavior towards the refugees, also blaming on the government. The border policies in some countries haven’t been strict enough like Switzerland, a country that has nearly 0 refugees. Keeping the borders safe is a must for a country in order to keep inner peace and economic stability inside the country. Some other countries have been struggling from this problem like France and Germany. But the problem in Türkiye is very serious. Nearly 1 in 5 people in Türkiye is from a foreign nationality. This is an easier demonstration of how serious the problem is for the country. To keep the borders safer, the country needs strict laws preventing immigrants from entering the country, or dealing with the immigration problem seriously within the borders. Unfortunately, some political issues have been mentioned in the last couple of weeks regarding the situation that governments take money per immigrant. If this is the case, there is much more needed to be done before the prevention of the intake of immigrants from foreign countries.

The refugee problem is looking like it is going to be a problem in the world, wherever you are. Increasing numbers of wars and conflicts between the countries, lower human development index values cause people to immigrate from their countries, leaving demographic inequality in the end of the day.
