This report aims to present my conclusions regarding possible out-of-school activities for students to our esteemed headteacher. The options considered are an art workshop, a coding class, and an outdoor adventure program. I will discuss the pros and cons of each, incorporating both my personal views and feedback from other students, before concluding with my recommendation.
Art Workshop:
Establishing an art workshop would provide students with a creative outlet to explore their inner worlds. Given the median age of the students, this option is likely to appeal to many. Supporting this, 40% of the students have expressed interest in participating in such a workshop. Yet, while its accessibility and popularity are significant advantages, the financial commitment required for art supplies cannot be overlooked. High-quality materials for a large number of students could strain the school’s budget.
Coding Class:
Our second option is a coding class. This is also an excellent idea, as understanding and being able to work with computers is an essential skill in the modern world. As our school already has a sufficient computer lab, it is also cost-effective. And while it isn’t quite as popular as the art workshop, it received positive feedback from a substantial 20% of all students. My main concern for the coding class is that it might not serve as a way of recreation, quickly become an arduous task for some students.
Outdoor Adventure Program:
Lastly, we can consider an outdoor adventure program. This is possibly the most exciting of the options. Doing sports outside can be a gate to both physical and mental wellness. I find that activities such as hiking often bring surprising revelations and personal improvement and fulfilment to a person. Unfortunately, this program is the costliest out of the bunch, as well as being much less accessible to most students. It also seems the modern teenager isn’t one for the active life, as only a measly 5% even considered taking part in this option.
In conclusion, while each option has merits and drawbacks, overall, the coding class seems to me to be the best decision.
