Refugee Crisis

One of the most important problems of today is the refugee crisis. First of all, let’s get to the root of this global problem, why does this problem exist and who is a refugee? According to the Geneva Refugee Convention, the concept of refugee is defined as follows;  a person who is unable or unwilling to return to their country because of fear of persecution because of race, religion, nationality, identity, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.

Contrary to popular perception, wars are not the only cause of the refugee crisis. Combats are only one of the causes, other causes that are less publicized are the unequal distribution of opportunities in the world, Decreased employment, agriculture and similar opportunities despite the rapidly increasing population, increasing food crisis due to global warming and destruction of natural resources, world order in which rich and developed countries get richer and underdeveloped poor countries get poorer day by day, reasons such as the world, where the world means developed countries, normalizes these reasons or deems them unimportant.

There is an unequal distribution of opportunities not only in the world but also within the countries, that is, this is a problem that occurs with the combination of international and national reasons. The refugee crisis, in other words, is the migration of people to more developed countries in terms of these opportunities due to the lack of adequate welfare, employment and education opportunities, equality, rights and other fundamental rights and freedoms in their own countries. Many reasons can be listed such as situations that restrict human rights in the world, war, internal turmoil, increasing population, insufficient opportunities, undemocratic forms of government. The growing population is pushing the limits of opportunities that are already unequal and insufficient, the world population has almost doubled since 1980, but the world’s opportunities have not increased at the same rate. With the increasing population, many existing resources have disappeared, in addition to these, food and house  prices have increased all over the world, water resources have become polluted and unusable. Although these situations also affect developed countries, it was the less developed countries that suffered the most from this situation.

These problems are global problems and require global solutions. Solutions that countries will find on their own will only work in a limited area in the short term. The inequality that exists in the world and the implementation of human rights only in developed countries is a humanitarian crisis that one should be ashamed of. We can only solve this crisis caused by the polarization of people with international unity and solidarity. Global decisions taken can often be manipulated by developed countries for their own interests. In order to prevent this situation, an international meeting should be organized where the representatives of the countries will have an equal voice. One of the greatest goals of humanity should be the immediate provision of world peace and equal human rights with the work to be done.
