Perseverance vs. Pareto: Finding Success

The Pareto Principle says that 80% of success often comes from just 20% of the efforts or people involved. This means that some actions or individuals have a much bigger impact than others. On the other hand, the saying “Success comes with perseverance” reminds us that hard work and not giving up are key to achieving our goals.

Both of these ideas contain truth. The Pareto Principle shows that focusing on the most important efforts can make a huge difference. For example, if you are studying for a test, spending time on the topics that are likely to be on the exam can help you do well. You don’t need to study every single detail—just the 20% that matters the most.

At the same time, perseverance is also important. Many of our ancestors didn’t have the tools or shortcuts we have today. They had to rely on determination and hard work to succeed. Whether they were farming, building, or creating, they knew the value of sticking with something even when it was hard.

In my opinion, these two ideas work best together. Perseverance helps you stay committed to your goals, even when things get tough. But focusing on the most important tasks, as Pareto suggests, makes your efforts more effective. Success isn’t just about working hard—it’s about working smart, staying determined, and making sure your efforts are focused on what truly matters.
