I was running like crazy. It was my first day of school, and I felt extremely shy entering this new school because I didn’t know anyone else there. The only person I knew was the girl who lives on my street. Finally, when I entered my classroom, my teacher helped me a lot. She introduced me to the class, and with her help, I made good friends in a short time.
After my classes, I went to the library to read some books and found plenty that interested me. I read some of them in the library and got permission to borrow a few books. When the librarian asked, ‘Are you going to borrow five books?’ I said, ‘I’ll just borrow four.’ The librarian suggested I should read a particular book, and I agreed. When I got home, I started reading the mystery book. On the 120th page, I saw a handwritten telephone number with the words ‘Help me’ written under it. I rushed to my mom to ask what it was. She jokingly said it was a prank, but I was worried, thinking someone might need help.
The next day at school, I asked one of my teachers. She explained that it was just a joke some bullies make. I realized that jokes aren’t funny all the time. I wasn’t happy about this particular joke.
