My New Year’s Resolution

“It is Monday. The first day of the year. What a coincidence! Automatically the year’s first day is holiday.” With these kinds of thoughts, I entered the living room. All my family members were sleeping due to staying awake until 1 A.M. They must be exhausted. If you ask me “Why aren’t you sleeping?”, I couldn’t sleep. There was nothing to do. As a result, I opened the TV involuntarily yet I regretted my decision at the moment. “What a pity!”, I sulked. For whatever reason, in the TV there was only news. Even in the kids’ program! I must say that I hate news because they only bring boredom to me but the next five programs were going to change my mind – at least that was what I thought.

I think it was half past one o’clock when I was watching the first channel. It was about new movies that got out recently all around the world. Sometimes I feel that news about movies is getting on their high horse because of their (in my terms) Sunday’s high degree temperature. Some days you feel like you can’t do anything because of the high temperature and your back is itching insanely. This feeling happens to me every Sunday whether if it’s summer or winter. So, I thought like “Why don’t I name it since it happens to me every Sunday?”. I digressed. In fine, I liked the news about new movies because of their well music taste and they actually narrated it very well. It was around half past two o’clock when the program was finished.

Firstly, you have to know that I was so desperate about the second news. I had to choose politics or economics. Or else I was going to watch a cartoon for babies. You got the difficulty of my decision. It was economics or should I say documentary? I’ll say, their fights were interesting. I didn’t get all the topics but I definitely understood how a human brain works in a fight. Second news was only watched for half an hour.

The third news was about history of cats. Out of all five news this was my favorite. Did you know that cats were treated as kings in Ancient Egypt or if middle age people treated cats better, they could’ve passed the bubonic plague better? This was one of the new pieces of information I got. At the of this news, I burst into tears.

I don’t remember the fourth and fifth news well but I guess fourth was about how did Turks adapted new year celebrations. Fifth was about world mythology. I was really sad about the fifth because I love mythologic stories but it was five o’clock.

After this 4-hour period, I found my New Year’s Resolution: From now on, I will watch every news that is possible to watch without any judgement. I went to sleep after finding my resolution. My first day of the year was absolutely awesome. At seven o’clock, I was watching the news, however the news wasn’t giving the same taste as the previous one!
