Movies’ Effect on Our Way of Thinking

From the moment we were born, a lot of things affect us and form our personality, perspective, and our way of thinking. We might not always feel the same way, and the complex events we’re in can limit our perspective. This situation changes when we become aware of certain things. We can not go on with our lives with a constant way of thinking. We draw some lessons from the positive and negative events we experience. These situations that affect us might be the events we experience, can be the people around us, and sometimes the books we read or even the movies that we watch.

Sometimes we need to look at things from an another angle to change our way of thinking. For example, imagine that you are watching a movie about a character who has experienced the same or similar events as you. This will give you the opportunity to revisit and analyze those events. Maybe your thoughts while watching the movie may not be the same as your thoughts while these events were taking place. Let’s say you are having an argument with a friend or relative. The characters in the movie had the same problem. You may have a chance to empathize by realizing that there may be situations that you do not see or you do not know. This does not include any obligation to be a discussion situation. It doesn’t even have to be an event you’ve experienced. An idea you support, or perhaps a detail about a person shown in the movie, can completely change your opinion. In some movies, this detail is given at the end or not at all, and the audience is surprised to see that things are not as the way they thought. Sometimes this is a detective movie and some clues can be put into the movie, sometimes we can see that the villain is someone we did not expected at all.

Generally, we choose the movies we watch or the songs we listen to according to our mood. A movie that we watch when we are not feeling well, when we are more depressed, will make us realize that not only do we feel this way, but that there might be other people who feel this way too, prevent us from feeling lonely and can show us that others understand us too. Or, seeing the characters who have faced the situations similar to the bad events we have experienced, put their own lives on track, and seeing that they do something to fix these situations can give us strength and make us realize that we can get rid of these situations too. Some films, on the other hand process and present events in such ways that even if we have some unalterable thoughts about those events, that they may even affect us and change our minds. Sometimes, even a word, a sentence, or maybe an event that happened in the movie can affects us.

As a result, the movies we watch can affect us in many different ways, sometimes by presenting different perspectives, and sometimes by making us realize some things with some small details and they can change our way of thinking.
