Ensuring safer structures against earthquakes is critical and education and morality both play important roles. However in my opinion, education is the main measure needed to achieve this goal.
Firstly, education is essential in providing individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and construct earthquake resistant structures. Engineers, architects and other professionals involved in construction, need to have understanding of the principles of earthquake resistant design and construction techniques. With this knowledge, they can ensure that their structures can withstand the forces generated by earthquakes.
On the other hand, morality is also an essential factor in ensuring safer structures against earthquakes. Moral principles such as honesty, integrity and accountability are critical in ensuring that engineers, architects and other professionals involved in construction adhere to high standards of quality and safety in their work. This includes being transparent about materials and methods used in construction and taking responsibility for any failures or defects that may occur.
On February 6th.,an earthquake occured in our country ,Turkey. About fifty thousand people died because of the earthquake. Constructors sold buildings as safe that but then they collapsed. A lot of newly built residential complexes that have collapsed like sandcastles, burying occupants under the rubble. Many of these buildings were sold as luxury housing “compliant with the latest earthquake safety standards”.Some of the contractors responsible have tried to flee Turkey. But this kind of greed and profiteering are not solitary crimes. These residential complexes could not have been built without state issued building permits and licences, without the approving signatures of nominally independent building inspectors, and without the necessary reports from laboratories doing quality control of construction materials. Unfortunately, in this earthquake, we have sadly experienced that morality is as important as education.
İn conclusion, both education and morality play important roles in ensuring safer structures against earthquakes, but education should be the primary measure. Education provides a solid foundation for individuals to understand the importance of safety and regulations necessary to ensure it.
After all, the first thing required to build constructions is education but without morality it is meaningless. Because applying the education you receive correctly, requires morality. I hope humanity will never again have to understand the importance of morality and education in the face of earthquakes like us.
