Math Explorers in the Competition

“It was the best decision I have ever made,” I said. Wait, wait, let me start from the beginning. It was a sunny and beautiful day, and I woke up early for school. It was Monday. I was really happy because we had math, science, and makers lessons. I was focused on the lesson, but suddenly the door opened—it was our makers teacher with our math teacher. They took me and some of my friends from other classes. We all wanted to know what was happening. Then we went to our school’s laboratory to discuss it.

At first, our math teacher talked about a competition involving both coding and math. There were different problems, and we had to solve them to win awards. At first, I thought I couldn’t go because of my courses, but I really wanted to enter.

After the meeting, we had some more lessons, but I was so distracted thinking about the competition. After I got home, I told my family about it. They said I could enter, and I was so happy. But we had to work hard. We formed a group and started practicing early to make sure we knew what we were doing. We worked so hard to win.

When the real competition started, we did our best. It lasted for 24 weeks. If we answered the questions early, we got more points. So, we tried to submit our answers to the application as quickly as possible to earn more points. At the end of the 24 weeks, the competition was over. They told us that the top five teams would go to Europe for more complicated and challenging competitions.

It was the last day of school, and we had the award ceremony. After the sports awards, they moved on to the academic awards. We were all so excited. They announced the 3rd and 2nd teams, and we had given up hope. Then they said, “The winner is Math Explorers.” They announced our names. We were so surprised, happy, and excited. “We won!” we shouted.

I told my team, “It was the best decision I have ever made.” They shouted, “Us too!”
