Mars

20.10.35

Dear diary,

I finally arrived to mars. The way was too long and it took whole 5 years of my life. I didn’t like the climate; it is too hot and dry. Huh what would I supposed to wait.

We started to walk to find a place to colonizing here. We discovered the biggest canyon in solar system and it was enormous. So, we decided to colonize near this canyon. We were mentally tired and really bored so the building up first tent took really time.

Dear diary,

I thought I will never wake up again. The nightmares didn’t give up to scare me I hope this won’t go on. The time was late when group wake up every body was really tired so. But there was a problem in my sight. I feel something abnormal that make us feel sleepy not go on discovering this planet.

The day was totally normal thought we cooked food baked breads and built our new lab. The group was really interesting randomly guys were sleeping and this make us to work more slowly.

22.10.35

Dear diary,

I do not remember anything.

23.10.35

Dear diary,

We entered the great canyon today. The canyon walls were so tall and red—we felt like little insects! But something was wrong. Even though the air was thin, we grew more and more fatigued as we traveled further in. Dr. Rivera said, “Perhaps it is the oxygen?” But the equipment showed that all was well. And then we came across a cave. Its opening was dusty, but on the rocks, there were glassy lines, as if they were made of glass. And they were softly glowing. Nobody wanted to touch them. We took some samples, but laboratory tests were not helpful. Yuri said to me, “It’s alive… but not like anything on Earth.” I dreamed badly that night again.

I heard voices in the wind.

24.10.35

Dear diary,

The cave is not just rocks. We brought robots inside and found gigantic rooms underground. The walls were lined with strange markings—curly lines, circles, and skinny long animals. When we turned on our lights, the markings glowed! Then our cameras shut down. The radios sounded strange. Elena screamed, “Did you see that shadow?!” We went back to camp, but I fell and slashed my glove on the shiny glass rock. It hurt, but not like a cut normally would. My hand was numb and cold. Then three people passed out at dinner.

The doctors said that there was too much of a happiness chemical in their brains.

Are we inhaling something toxic?

25.10.35

Dear diary,

Something is here. Maybe in the air, earth… or in us. The three who fainted revived screaming, “The rocks have faces! ” There’s poison in the air, according to Dr. Rivera, but the filters are clear. In my dreams, last night I dreamed that the paintings in the caves came to life. They were warnings. And tonight, after sunset, when the sun drops away, there’s a hum out of the canyon. A distant sound. Jenkins begged the captain, “Call Earth! Call home!” But Captain Voss said, “No.

We need proof.”

Proof of what?

We are bleaching skin.

We harm eyes.” Even bread tastes metallic. 26.10.35 Dear diary, Jenkins is gone. His tracker died near the cave. His helmet came last showed him simply walking into the darkness, over and over saying, “They’re calling me… the hive needs me.” We’re too ill to go out and search for him. The lab mice we brought with us are dead. Their brains were filled with black fluid. Yuri thinks that the sparkling glass has something to do with all of this.

“Maybe the canyon is alive,” he whispered.

I can’t sleep.

Whispers in my head, “Stay. Be with us.”

undefined27.10.35undefinedDear diary,

The robots saw humans moving in the cave—things that looked human, with something wet and red in their hands. We’re trying to leave. Captain Voss finally agreed. But the ship’s engines won’t start. The fuel lines are filled with that mirrored glass. It just keeps growing back every time we clear it out. Tonight, I’m going to take a rover and go to the backup base. If I don’t make it back, tell everyone: Mars isn’t dead. It’s alive… and it’s waking up.
