Logic and Emotion

John Smith says “Reason is the guide of man and always helps you find the right path”. On the other hand Emily Brown says “Reason is just a tool; listening to our emotions and instincts is more important”. In summary, John Smith tells you to follow your logic while Emily Brown tells you to follow your instincts.

There are different situations where listening to what your logic says is more important. For example; if you have to sell the necklace that you love so much to make money then buy food and if it is the only way for you to make money you don’t think about the value of the necklace you just sell it. If you don’t sell the necklace, you will starve and eventually die. Would you say that you love the necklace under those circumstances? If not, it means that you are listening to your logic. The reason for selling the necklace is to not starve. So the reason is your guide, just like a compass.

There are many different situations where you do what you feel like doing at that moment. There are many daily life examples of it. If you see an old beggar on the road, you feel sorry for the person. You can either pass by them or give them money. It is a situation where you just follow your emotions and instincts. So there is no reason behind passing by the beggar without giving them anything or giving them money. You just follow your instincts and emotions while doing many other things like that.

Reason is something related to logic. Emotions are not related to any reason. And I think you shouldn’t have a reason to follow your instincts. You need to say that you did what your heart told you to do. Because always having a reason limits the things you can do. Sometimes a person doesn’t want to find the right path. Sometimes people need to do the thing they want without giving a reason. In summary, I believe that Emily Brown is correct by saying that reason is just a tool and emotions and instincts are more important.
