Learning Area

What comes to mind when you think of school? Probably a building full of students and teachers is coming to mind. In regard to a survey, which is done by students in Canada, 86.7% of the students answered to this question like this. All children are obligated to go to school until they are old enough -adults- to make their own decisions. So, does this education suddenly end when you stop going to school?

I, personally, do not believe that the school consists of only four closed walls. I think they misrepresent the school to students. When school is mentioned, they should not visualize a building, instead learning should come to their minds. One reason students find school boring and compulsory is that they promote the school building, not the learning part. When you go to enroll at any school, do they ever encourage you to learn or say anything about learning? Or do they give you a tour of the school building? Families, also, go and choose a school according to the beauty of the school building, whereas the purpose of the school is to provide education. It doesn’t make a difference in education whether the garden of that building is bigger or not.

Education does not end when school is over, it continues throughout your life. You learn from the smallest thing you experience and learn new things. Let’s take a simple example; imagine that you are going for hiking, and you are wearing a short bottom. so your legs are completely covered in scratches. You can learn from this incident and learn to wear a long bottom next time. As we can see from this example, the school building has nothing to do with learning. People can learn something, even in the forest, whenever they want. It does not even need to be a forest, you can learn a lot of new information from social media while lying on the sofa at home.

To sum up everything that I have stated before, I agree with the idea “School is not just a place surrounded by walls on all four sides, with a roof on top. School is everywhere; it becomes a forest or it may cling on a mountain top. Every place where learning and knowledge exists is school.”. From now on, when school is mentioned, it should come to mind as “learning area”.
