Here I was, standing close to the edge of the cliff. I had no intentions of jumping down; however, one glance into the endless blue could change my mind, which is why I stood there, scared. I was scared, but above me was the most beautiful view. The dark blue sky looked faded with the “lavender” tone it had. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen, prettier than ever. But what really made it stand out was all the stars sprinkled around. They made the sky look glamorous and glittery. I turned back. I knew that if I kept running away from my problems, I would never get ahead. Still, when I thought of going back home, my legs would start shaking, my head would start hurting, and I’d feel like throwing up.
I woke up to the sound of a hummingbird. I could identify it from the other birds because there were a lot in our garden back at home. Whenever I went outside, they would chirp and fly around the lavender. I never knew why hummingbirds liked lavender that much until I noticed how they stood out compared to the other flowers. I yawned lightly as I sat up. After rubbing my eyes, I felt a sense of relaxation. I felt like going home and making everything right. I slowly stood up and started looking around.
Behind me was the familiar garden full of lavender I’d grown up in. I didn’t remember choosing to come back home last night. Even so, I didn’t question it. I was happy to be home. I could apologize and make things right between me and my parents. I wanted to run inside, but I had to be slower because they could be asleep. I knelt down on my knees and started crawling. The closer I got, the more I could smell the beautiful lavender. I was finally going to hug my parents again.
Lavender was my mother’s favorite flower. That’s what she named me after. She never knew they’d end someone’s life then. She still doesn’t know. She thinks I jumped down, when in reality, it was her lavender that made me.
