An earthquake is a natural disaster that can cause tens of thousands of casualties at once. Although earthquakes don’t happen frequently, it is important to take precautions.
Recently, a catastrophic earthquake happened in Turkey which killed approximately 60 thousand while destroying major parts of the cities it affected. People who survived and had no money to move anywhere else were forced to live in small tents Kızılay offered. They also had to mentally deal with the loss of their loved ones. The disaster was only effective because the buildings were not durable. The ones who survived the collapsations but were stuck under tons of debris were generally starving or bleeding to death. This was either due to recklessness or the lack of knowledge of the geographical characteristics of the reigons they lived in.
Education plays a big role in survival. İt gets us ready for incoming dangers we will or might face in life. Properly educating our people about possible natural disasters can save more than we think. But that education is the education for architects. As buildings collapsed because they didn’t have a strong infrastructure, architects must get educated about modern techniques of building.
Of course, it’s not enough to completely solve this problem since education is not the only thing that prevents architects from making buildings properly. Some of them make buildings with cheap materials just to make more money of them. This is a serious issue that needs to be solved now.
In conclusion, buildings that caused many horrific scenes during the earthquake were poorly made because of 2 main reasons. The one we should really be worrying about is the lack of morality because the one who is foolish can be cured, yet the one without morals has chosen that path.
