Inventions are an essential part of humanity. They can reflect the human mind and curiosity about our lives with each one changing a different aspect of it. But how essential are they really? And which one is more important than all the others?
Inventions while useful on their own, are stepping points for eachother. Their importance mostly comes from the fact that they’re all very versatile. Believe it or not, the way they helped us wasn’t like it is in video games. It was a long process that payed off thanks to the creativity of the human mind. A prime example would be the change that telegrams experienced. An invention that was made to counter the fact that soilders and commanders couldn’t communicate with eachother when there were long distances between eachother during WW1. A keyboard that allowed you to send messages via frequency waves, but you could only use morse code. The human mind took the idea of long distance communication and created telephones to be able to do it more efficiently. And of course that led to the creation of mobile phones we have today. With a lot more examples similar to this one, its obvious to see the importance and the reasoning for it.
So what is the greatest invention? You would assume that my answer would be something like fire or the internet considering how they were the stepping stones for everything, being used even today. And while my original was that, it no longer is. That is because while versatility is a part of why inventions are essential, they’re only a part. There are a lot more things that we have to take into consideration like their disadvantages, their efficieny, their impact and how they are used. Fire for example had a massive impact but the damage it can do is too big to ignore. Same could apply to the internet with the exchange of illegal information and many other things.
So what truly is the greatest invention? In my opinion, ironically I still think that it is the internet. While it has a lot of bad sides, its pros still outweigh the cons. While it can do some reworking such as limiting the freedom of speech given to the people, its the single most versatile, efficient, impactful and useful inventions of all time.
