This graph represents the population of India and China from the year 2000 to present day and with projections for growth till the year 2050.
In 2000 the population of China was around 1,2 billion and continued to gradually increase till approximately 2025 where the population began to stagnate. Then starting from 2035 it is expected to show a gradually decreasing trend. On the other hand, India in 2000 had a population of 1 billion which has been growing steadily every year to reached around 1.4 billion in 2024 and it is foreseen to reach 1.6 billion by 2050.
The interesting point in comparison of the population growth between two countries is that although China had a higher population in 2000, according to the estimated calculations, in 2030 India caught up with China where both countries foreseen to have populations around 1.45 billion. In addition, the population of India is estimated to surpass the population of China by 200 million in 2050.
