Idolizing and Trying To Be Someone Else

Do you have any idol? Most of the people , especially kids and teenagers, idolize some people, their parents and relatives or some celebrities mostly, to find a way to lead their life by using their lifestyle as an example. Actually, planning your life by getting examples from succesful people’s experience may be helpful for you. But, the idolization culture seems to got out of control these days. Teens get obsessed with the celebrities they love and they began to copy them, even their dresses and mimics. What I mean as out of control, some of them even creates groups, mostly on social media, even if this sounds not serious, some of them seriously worships their celebrity idols as a god. So, is it really a good idea for teens and kids to have an idol?Or should they just try to be themselves?

Actually, the bad and good effects of idolizing someone depends on the choice of the teens about who they get as an example. If they make the right decision of person, for example a scientist or a billionaire bussinesman, they might lead their way through their experiences and may have a succesful life like their idols has. For example, if a teen like myself chooses a nobel-winner scientist Aziz Sancar as an idol, the hardworking , determination and other good parts of him may lead my life through a succesful future, and maybe to a nobel prize as well. This situation can also be adapt to teen athletes who aims to be like succesful sports legends like Cristiano Ronaldo in football and Micheal Jordan in basketball. Another example, a teen tennis player that idolises Novak Đoković may get encouraged to be like him and may work harder to be a proffesional and succesful tennis player like him. So, this shows that having great and successful people as an example may lead us through a better life.

But, how about losing our own personality by obsessing to our idol, even though he/she is not the best choice to be an example for us. Lots of teens, mostly girls, are really got addicted to a new kind of music called K-Pop. Even though there is no difference between classic Pop and this, the main difference is who the singer or group is. The teens are likely possessed to the korean singers and they are serious about getting ready to die for them. The obsession they have lead them to lose their own personality and changing themselves to look and act like more and more. It sounds crazy but, they have thousands of groups on social websites like TikTok and Instagram named “….Army” and they are dead serious about protecting them and worshipping them in a real terrible way. Giving an example to show their level of obsession, in 2021, 3 teens from Turkey left their house without telling their parents to escape to the Korea by bus, even though there is thousands of km’s away. So, it is obvious that losing yourself and copying your idol too much will lead to bad conclusions like crazy obsessions, and it would be worse if you choose if idol is a bad one.

To conclude, having someone as an idol may have good and bad consequences based on the decision of idol. It may lead to a succesful , happy life and a bright future; as well as it may lead through losing your personality and unhealthy obsessions that may cause bad decisions like the bus example. So, when choosing an idol and leading the life by their experiences and lifestyle, we should also preserve our own personality and try to choose the right one to get as an example, especially succesful people.
