Gold or Death

In our world gold is very precious. Of course, it has always been precious but things are different now. We need the gold for living. It is like water for us, we can not live without it. In the absence of it, we die in suffering. This story that I am about to tell, is the story of how I saved my mom.

One day, I was wandering around the neighborhood because I was bored from waiting for Pelin, my sister. She had been looking for gold for days. My mother has been sick for days because we haven’t had gold in our house for a long time. We had to find gold for our mom so my sister was so determined to find it.

After four hours, I saw a little shadow coming towards me. I thought that it was my sister, Pelin but it was not. It was a scary thief in a scary black mask. I was so afraid, was he going to hurt me? Thieves were so common because finding gold was as difficult as splitting the atom. He was going to try to steal my gold, but I didn’t have any? My legs were shaking and I had goosebumps. I was just hoping to live, I hoped that he wouldn’t hurt me. I tried to escape but he suddenly tied my hands together and I started crying. “Please stop! I will give you what you want, stop please!” I said. He started laughing “You can only live if you have gold, give it to me.”. I started screaming and asking for help. He closed my mouth with his hand and said “ I will kill you if you scream one more time.”.

Just as I was losing hope, I saw another shadow walking toward us. That was Pelin! “Sister, help!” I shouted. She immediately started running but it was too late. The thief was just about to fire the gun, I kicked his legs and he fell. He accidentally shot himself and died. My sister was crying, and I was praying to God for saving me. “Did you find gold for mom?” I asked Pelin. She was not smiling, I could tell from her face, that she didn’t. We looked at the thief’s body. What was that sparkly object? “Pelin, can you look quietly and slowly at the ground? Am I mistaken or is there a golden bracelet right under my foot” I said. We started screaming from happiness. Our mom was going to get better! We grabbed the bracelet and walked home.
