Genetically Modified Crops

Nowadays worlds population is increasing and all people have to take nourishment but unfortunately lots of people die because of starvation and famine. Resources are not enough for 8 billion people because of this reason people in certain areas are dieing. For example Africa. So people need to do something to overcome this problem.

Some developed countries are using different methods and producing genetically modified crops to prevent this problem. Genetically modified crops (Gm crops) are plants used in agriculture, the DNA of which has been modified using genetic engineering methods. Plant genomes can be engineered by physical methods or by use of Agrobacterium for the delivery of sequences hosted DNA vectors. But in all over the world people thinking about this genetically modified crops are they harmful, are there any side effects that affect people. In my opinion this crops have negative effects on people’s health. To me these crops not just doing harm on people, they are ruining the environment too. Many Gmo crops are produced to make ingredients such as cornstarch, corn syrup, corn oil, soybean oil, canola oil, or granulated sugar. A few fresh fruit and vegetables are available in Gmo varieties, including potatoes, summer squash, apples, papayas, and pink pineapples. The main concerns around Gmos involve allergies, cancer, and environmental issues all of which may affect the consumer. While current research suggests few risks, more long-term research is needed. Also Gm crops causing reduction in insect biodiversity when crops are resistant to insects. Unanticipated effects on other crops or animals. Creating more harder-to-kill invasive species. On the other hand after all these negative effects there are few positive effects too. For example Gmo foods are easier and less costly for farmers to grow, which makes them cheaper for the consumers. Gmo techniques may also changes foods’ nutrients, flavor and appearance.

To sum up Gm crops are not a logical way to overcome this problem because we can see that negative effects are more than positive ones. So countries that using this method need to change their perspectives and find another effective solution for this problem.
