When I looked out the window, the whole family was sitting around the table, eating with one hand. They were eating and talking. All of a sudden, the power went out. At first, there was a stunned silence as everyone looked around in the dimly lit room. Then my little sister started to giggle. “This is like camping!” she exclaimed, and soon everyone was laughing and joking about the situation. My mom quickly got up to light some candles, and my dad grabbed his guitar from the corner of the room. We started to sing songs, passing around bowls of food and drinks in the flickering candlelight. As the night went on, we talked, joked, and sang until our voices were hoarse. We even played some board games by candlelight, which was a unique experience. Finally, the power came back on, and we all cheered up. But as we got up from the table and started to clear away the dishes, I couldn’t help feeling a little sad. It had been such a simple, joyful evening, and I realized that sometimes it takes a power outage to remind us of the importance of being present with the ones we love.
