Empty Roads

“That’s me, who is  always a problem. Did I choose it? Is it my decision? I made her invisible!”

She was just a high school student. She was my classmate too. Her name is Jade. Jade Woods. Her father is one of the famous people in our town. Besides being famous, he was an apathetic father. Despite his fame, he did not display much emotion or attachment to his daughter. Jade Woods was one of the lucky few who had a famous father but yet managed to not be deprived of the love and affection she deserved from him. Jade found solace and understanding from her mother, who was always there to give her the love and support she needed even though she was aware that her father would never provide it . Growing up, Jade often felt isolated and disconnected from her father’s world. Though Jade never felt like she had a true connection with her father, she still appreciated his accomplishments and knew how important it was for him to create art that would be remembered long after he was gone. Jade was an emotional girl. It could break at the slightest provocation. but her mother always encouraged her to be strong. Her mother was everything to her. Jade grew up learning the importance of resilience, and her mother’s unwavering support helped to build her strength of character .

That was when Jade collapsed mentally. Her parents never got along well, and there was another time they fought. The cause of the argument is Jade. Jades future. Her father said, “That’s me, who is  always a problem. Did I choose it? Is it my decision? I made her invisible!”  After this argument, her father passed away because of a car crash. That was a difficult period for Jade; she felt abandoned and confused. She felt a deep sense of loneliness and pain as she realized the brokenness of her family and her own helplessness in that situation. During these days, me and my friends decided to play a game. It was called “Regret.” You have to tell your biggest regret to the person who made you regret it. She listened to our conversations and decided to join in . She started to share her biggest regret with us, which surprised us all.

She said, “My father.” She told us that her biggest regret was not being able to tell her father how much she loved and appreciated him before he passed away . Even though he hates her. What is constantly missing does not become necessary after a while. For her, love is not necessary anymore.
