One day, instead of blue, the sky started raining green, and everything changed.
At first, people thought it was an illusion—perhaps some strange trick of light. But when Jenna heard the green droplets splashing right onto her roof, she feared for her dearest life.
She stood by her window, watching as the sky transformed into the exact color of coffee grounds. Trees outside were effected by the strange droplets, their leaves growing darker and darker, branches stretching left and right. And the people who were caught in the rain—Jenna saw their confusion turn to horrifying screams as their skin soaked the rain in.
By midnight, the city was unrecognizable. The streets were bustling like usual, only with people moving differently—slower, like as if something was holding them back on using their bodies properly.
Jenna’s younger brother, Mike, had been outside when the rain began. He came home shivering, his veins glowing beneath his pale white skin, with a strange green spark. He was now laying in his bed, murmuring words his sister had never heard before.
The news were trying to keep people stay calm, but their hoarse voices were betraying them. Scientists continued their research on the rain, religious leaders called it an omen. Conspiracy theorists were absolutely sure this was a secret government experiment gone wrong. But no one had the answers. Only one thing was certain—whatever the green rain was, it wasn’t finished yet.
Then, on the second night, the sky cracked open, once again.
A screech echoing in the sky, shook the city. The rain got even more intense, attacking with a sudden blast of wind. Mike sat up in bed, his body freezing. His lips curled up to a weird smile:
“They’re coming,” he whispered.
Jenna felt her blood pump in her ears “Who’s coming?”
But Mike only smiled, his eyes glowing brightly. Outside, the green-brown world hummed with a pleasant vibration. People stood in their places in the streets, their faces tilted toward the horrifying sky, waiting.
And then, the stars began to move.
