Dream City

Every day, the cities in which we live become more crowded, more polluted, and more dangerous. As an 11-year-old boy, I can’t go shopping, to the cinema, or participate in sports alone because of the environment. Last night, I had a dream in which I was living in a happy and very beautiful city. There were no tall buildings; all the houses had a maximum of three floors, including trade centers, government buildings, schools, and hospitals. There were no traffic jams; the roads were divided into three parts: the first part was for bicycles, the second part for buses, and the third part for cars. Everybody was obeying traffic rules; no one was driving after consuming alcohol. Everyone was wearing seat belts, and there were no traffic accidents. Schools were all government-run, and education was free. For the first three years of education, there were no homework assignments, and children were only learning how to read, write, observe the environment, conduct simple experiments, and play with their friends. There were no university exams; children who wanted to become doctors had the chance to attend medical faculty, and those who wanted to become engineers had the chance to attend technical faculties. If you wanted to participate in sports, there were many basketball, volleyball, football, and tennis centers available. If you needed medical advice, you could go directly to the hospital and receive it. Everyone was working and producing something; they were conserving energy and water and did not waste anything. There were many trees, flowers, rivers, and lakes. If you wanted to have a picnic, you could find many tables under the trees. There was no air pollution, and you could breathe easily. While I was playing with my friends, I heard my mom calling me for breakfast, and I realized it was just a dream.
