Do We Really Need a New Mascara?

An animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm.

Every year, more than 100 millions of animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in laboratories for the sake of cosmetic industry. Seriously, is this vicious action necessary? What are its pros and cons?

Historical evidence suggests that animals have been used for research purposes since at least 500 BC. The biggest claim of using animal testing is that animals are similar to humans. It is said to give the most accurate data besides testing the newly-produced cosmetics on humans. If animals give accurate data why don’t we get the most accurate data by doing the testings on humans then? Is this because humankind is more precious than ‘ugly’ rats or is it because we do not have the permission to test on humans? But, we also do not have the permission to do tests on animals, we don’t ask animals if they are volunteered to be tested on.

Also since our technology is developed, we do not need any kind of animal, artificial skin can be used.

This world really doesn’t need another mascara or a hairspray…

All creatures on the planet deserve respect and have the right to live! And we have no right to play “God”.

Just think about your pet. Would you let him be treated like this? Putting harmful substances in his skin, being exposed to radiation and eventually getting killed after the experiment. You wouldn’t want it, would you? Even the thought of it makes me uncomfortable but now, while you are reading this over a thousand animals are experiencing those.

You don’t need another mascara or eyeshadow just to look presentable. Every time you put on mascara think about the animals that have been killed and tortured while producing those cosmetic products.

In my humble opinion, animal testing on cosmetics must be banned. We cannot change the world overnight but we can stop encouraging the companies that test on animals like L’oreal, P&G, Unilever, Dove etc. I stopped buying cosmetics from those brands a long time ago and I try to encourage the cruelty-free companies like Wet n Wild, Essence etc. You can also join me on my cruelty-free journey and we can all make this inhumane tests stop.
