Who are you? What do you say when someone asks you who you are? Are you brave, kind, intelligent, selfless, or honest? Think of a world where there are factions you get into, and these factions reflect who you are. But what if you are not only brave but also honest? Can you belong to two factions? Yes, you can. It is called being “divergent.” Divergent series are novels written by Veronica Roth. Later on, they have turned into movies. I watched the first movie of the series, which is called “Divergent.”
Divergent is set in the future, in Chicago. There are five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Candor (the honest), Amity (the kind), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). When you turn a certain age, you have to choose the faction you belong to. You can choose the faction your family is in or a faction you believe you fit in. You get a test that tells you which faction you belong to. The main character, Beatrice (later on changed to Tris), takes the test and turns out that she belongs to more than one of these factions. Which means that she is divergent. In this world, divergents are found dangerous and get killed. So no one has to know that she is divergent. She gets into the faction Dauntless and meets a guy called Four. They go through many things. Will Tris survive?
This movie got me hooked. I loved the concept of the five factions. It also made me curious about what would happen in the end. It was a great movie, and the actors were great too. Tris’ actress is Shailene Woodley, and Four’s actor is Theo James. If you like science fiction movies, I fully recommend watching “Divergent.”
