As usual, I struggled to get out of bed and got ready for school. I got so caught up in doing my makeup that I almost missed the bus. There was an exam today, we had lessons, we laughed and had fun during the breaks, and finally, I came home. I did my homework, but there was so much that it was almost midnight. I had a feeling of doubt inside me, but I didn’t know why. Because of that, I couldn’t sleep. I opened the window and looked outside. But the stars were a bit strange. They were more vivid, brighter, and sparkling. It was as if each of them had a soul. Some were happy, some were sad, some were shocked, and some were scared. It was just like the souls of people; each one reflected a human. I had a star too; I had believed in that.
I went outside in the evening and started walking while looking at the sky. My plan was that as I walked, my star would follow me. I watched the stars carefully. There were people walking with me, so two or three stars were coming at the same time. I controlled the emotions of the people around me; one was sad, one was scared, and the other was tense. I, on the other hand, was happy. The brightest star was my star… It was as if this star wanted to take me somewhere. Tomorrow was Friday, so I could stay outside longer, and I would follow this star.
The next day, as soon as I got out of school, I came home and waited for the sky to darken. My parents were on vacation, so I took my key and went outside. When I started following the star, it took me out of the city and to my birthplace… When I arrived at the house where I was born, I felt a little tense. I didn’t understand why my star brought me here. I heard some sounds coming from inside the house. I was scared to go in, but in the end, I gathered my courage and entered. The house was full of dogs and cats, and I still can’t make sense of it. As I walked through the rooms, I came across a little girl in my old room. She was scared and didn’t talk to me. I took her to a warm place because it was cold outside. She started to trust me a little. I asked her if she had a family. When she told me she didn’t, I felt very sad. I went back to my home in Ankara. The girl didn’t have a name. But I asked her if I could call her Night, and she said she liked the name. This name meant a lot to me. I had found her at night, and whenever I said “Night” to her, I would remember that day.
On the way back home, two stars were following us now. I was happy because I no longer felt lonely. My family didn’t know about this, but I was sure they would welcome Night well. We were three hours away from home, and finally, we arrived. As I had expected, my family welcomed her warmly. She was now my sister…
