Diary Entry – Life on Mars
March 15, 2035
Hello diary,
Today was a very hard day on Mars. Living here is not easy. Every day we have many problems, but we try to solve them. The biggest problem is the air. We cannot breathe like on Earth. We always need to wear our space suits outside. If there is a hole in the suit, it is very dangerous. One time, my friend Mark had a small hole in his glove. He was very scared, but we fixed it fast. We must always be careful.
Another big problem is food. We don’t have big farms like Earth. We grow plants in a small greenhouse. The plants need light, water, and good air. But Mars is very cold, and the soil is not good for plants. We use special soil and lights to help them grow. Sometimes, the plants die, and we have less food. We eat a lot of dried food too. I miss pizza and fresh fruits from Earth.
Also, the weather is very bad here. There are big dust storms, and they last for days. When there is a storm, we cannot go outside. The dust covers the solar panels, and we have less power. We must clean them after every storm. It is very boring but very important.
One more problem is that we feel lonely. There are only 12 people in our colony. We cannot go outside for fun. We talk to our families on Earth, but the messages take many minutes to come. Sometimes, I feel very far from home. But we have fun too. We play games, watch movies, and exercise. We also do a lot of science experiments. I like my work because I learn new things every day.
Even with these problems, I am happy to be here. Mars is a new home for us. Maybe one day, many people will live here. I hope we can make a better life on Mars. But I still miss Earth. One day, I want to go back and eat a big burger!
That’s all for today. Time to sleep. Tomorrow is another busy day!
Goodnight, diary.
