COMMUNICATION BOOK

One day, I woke up and went to school. Upon entering my classroom, I noticed only the guards; no one else was there. That’s when I decided to start reading a book. When I reached the 20th page, I spotted my friend Emma, a quiet and intelligent girl. She asked me about the book’s title, and after sharing it, she teased, “I know that book. I’ll give you a spoiler: something special awaits you on the 120th page. Don’t peek now; wait until you get there.” Despite my curiosity, I exercised patience and refrained from looking ahead.

After a few minutes, I reached the 50th page, but the bell rang, signaling the start of a math lesson where reading books wasn’t allowed. So, I eagerly waited for the break. During that break, I realized I was already on the 65th page, right in the middle of the book. I felt proud, achieving a personal record for the number of pages read in a day.

Once again, the bell rang after the lesson, and I completely forgot about the book. However, during lunch break, as I was taking out my lunchbox, the book fell to the ground. Spotting it, I picked it up and resumed reading. Throughout the entire lunch break, I immersed myself in the book, reaching the 115th page. When I saw Emma, I excitedly exclaimed, “Emma, I’m on the 115th page!” She requested the book for a moment, and to my confusion, she began writing something on one of the pages. When I asked her about it, she explained, “At the end of the book, there’s a note.”

Upon reaching the 120th page, I discovered a handwritten phone number, with five more pages to go until the book’s conclusion. After those pages, I found a note written in red pencil that read: “If you encounter someone reading this book, write a random number, like a phone number. This is for communication because we are polluting communication by using mobile phones. When you reach this page, it means you now understand the book’s purpose.” Emma smiled, I responded with a smile, and from that day forward, instead of calling my friends and family using FaceTime or conventional methods, I chose to visit them in person rather than merely calling.
