Coffee Bean

Mikey was a nine year old boy. He was a clever boy who learnt everything in a fast way. His family was always proud of him and his achievements. His parents taught him to be hardworking and kind all the time.

When Mikey and his friends started growing up, some of them started changing. Before, nearly all his classmates were very respectful and kind kids. They were doing their bests all the time, they were trying to be good people. But when they became eleven, they  started making fun of each other in a very rude way. They started fighting more, they started using bad words… Unfortunetly, they became bad persons. There were some good kids too and Mikey was one of them. But sadly, the bad ones started making fun of good ones.

Mikey was shocked because his parents taught him that being good, being kind is the thing that he should be. They all congratulated  him for being the good one. But why was he feeling so bad because of the good things he made?

Day by dad Mikey was getting more upset. He lost his courage to doing good things. His parents noticed his sadness and they decided to send him to his grandfather. Mikey and his grandfather always had a strong bond between them. His grandfather, Frank, was a wise person who gives good advices. He also noticed that there was something wrong about Mikey and he decided to talk to him about it.

Frank went upstairs and knocked Mikey’s door. He went in and sat next to Mikey. “Mikey, you don’t look okay these days. If you want to talk I can listen to you. If there is a problem that you can’t solve by yourself I can help you.” He said. Mikey looked at his grandfather and started crying. After a few minutes he started to talk: “Since I was born; my mom, my dad and you always taught me to be good. I learnt to be kind, hardworking and generous… All of you are proud of me for being good but I am not sure about being good anymore. All my friends treat me so bad, they make fun of me, I feel so bad in every moment I spend in the school.” He whispered “I am not sure if being kind is the right way anymore.”

Frank said “Come with me.” And he took him to the kitchen. He put a coffee beam on to the table and started talking: “This is a coffee bean but it may be anytime a different kind of coffee. It can be a latte, cappuccino, espresso or anything else. There are hundreds of versions it can be. You are like this coffee bean too. You have millions of versions you can be. It is your own choice to be bad or good. You have your own rights and falses. As your family the only thing we can do is showing you our own rights and falses. We can’t force you to believe in them. Don’t let anyone to force you to change your ideas. Even if the ones who try to do that are your old friends or family.”

Mikey smiled to his grandfather “I am a cofee bean but I may be anytime a latte, cappuccino, espresso or anything else. I know what is wrong or right and I won’t let anyone to force me to change them.”
